The True Sport LTAD Matrix
Sport is a valuable public asset, one that impacts the community as well as its citizens. When sport is done right, these impacts have the potential to extend well beyond the commonly recognized health benefits associated with sport, including putting children and youth on a positive life course, building stronger and more inclusive communities, and contributing to economic and environmental sustainability. These benefits are realized when sport is good – when it is value-based and principles-driven. In Canada, we call good sport True Sport.

This video clips is in French but there is no need to have translation when you watch how Mr. Hosokawa executes the techniques. The IJF has changed the competition rules in efforts to bring more ippons and more dynamic judo. It is important that all judo coaches in Canada take time to improve their technical skills and improve their abilities to teach effective judo techniques.

Anaerobic lactate training for JUDO
On this video clip are some basic drills for developing athletes judo specific anaerobic lactate training. All energy systems can be developed on and off the judo mats. It is important to have a focus developing specific areas with judo skills since it can be both technical development and physical development.
Deadlift Technique:
Leg power and lower back strength is very important for an athlete’s judo development. This video clip does a good job of showing the basic technique for deadlifts. The deadlift is a very good lift because it involves many different areas of the body at one time. With one lift you are developing your leg strength, your lower back strength and your grip strength. This multi joint exercise is a must during an athletes strength phase. (a good dead lift will also help an athlete when they start their Olympic lifting)

IJF Head Sports Director Message | 20th December 2012. |
The IJF Head Sports Director, Mr. Vladimir Barta, sent his best greetings to the judo family.
Dear Friends,
First of all I would like to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for all your tremendous hard work and effort in particular during the demanding Olympic Qualification period.
In the beginning of the year 2009 the IJF introduced revolutionary changes aimed at making our sport more attractive for the Olympic period 2009 - 2012. Among other things the IJF developed the following:
- Established a World Ranking List
- Established a World Ranking List
- New competition system without or with only quarter final repechage
- World Judo Tour of 7 levels events
- Prize money in IJF circuit
- Live TV coverage
- Live internet TV
- New draw and seeding procedures
- On line registration system
- Unified back numbers
- SOKUTEIKI proper judogi control
- KOKA was cancelled
- First SHIDO became free
- HANSOKU MAKE for direct leg attacks
The IJF also promoted a totally new Olympic Qualification system lasting two years and composed of 2 parts and 2 different systems both strictly based on WRL only.
- Direct Qualification for 252 top athletes guaranteeing “best-of-the-best” participation
- Continental Qualification for another 100 athletes guaranteeing the universality
For the first time the qualification was focused on more global results during two years and all athletes had to prove their quality during the whole of this period. To those two WRL based qualification systems, the IJF could also use 20 wild cards.
Finally, this resulted in JUDO becoming the third sport at the London Olympics in terms of number of participating countries, behind only the giants (Athletics and Swimming), with 136 Judo Federations compared to 92 in Beijing 2008 an increase of 47%.
It is more than natural that the IJF should wish to continue with this process of identifying positive developments, after the Olympic Games, to serve not only the media but also more importantly the athletes and the Judo public. There are only a few adjustments when compared to the year 2009 but we believe that they will ultimately influence and encourage our athletes to display active Judo styles and will further improve the image of our sport.
I wish you and your families all the very best in 2013 and I am looking forward to seeing you in the IJF Seminar, already in January.
Yours truly
Vladimir BARTA
IJF Head Sports Director
