Judo BC Benefits from Hosting BC Grant
Funding
We are pleased to announce the 2013 National Championships being held at the Richmond Olympic Oval, July 4 – 7, is one of 64 events receiving funding from the Hosting BC grant funding program. This funding is received from the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, and administered by viaSport British Columbia.

James Chevrette Double Presidents’ Award Recipient
James Chevrette, BC Games Advisor for Judo BC, is the recipient of the Judo
BC’s Presidents’ Award and the BC Games Presidents’ Award. These will be
presented at a special ceremony immediately prior to the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards on March 7th at the River
Rock Show Theatre in Richmond. The Presidents’ Awards give BC’s Provincial Sport
Organizations an opportunity to showcase those individuals who make a
significant, and often unheralded, contribution to their sport. We believe this
is the first time one individual with be receiving 2 Presidents’ Awards.

Busy Weekend for BC Judokas
Over 40 Judo BC athletes competed in 2 separate tournaments this weekend. U15 and U18 Team BC dominated the Saskatchewan Open in Regina on January 19th bringing home a total of 19 medals including 11 Gold and 4 Sliver. Athletes from Abbotsford, Burnaby, Port Coquitlam and Steveston Judo Clubs traveled to Seattle to participate in the 2013 Continental Judo Crown. Looking for Clubs to host Eclipse Program
After the outstanding success of the Eclipse Program at the Prince George Judo Club, we are looking for clubs interested in hosting Eclipse programs in their Dojos. This program is funded by viaSport, Judo Canada and Judo BC and provides opportunities for youth at risk. If you club is interested please contact our office for more information.
Judokas Success at the Western Canadian Age Class Wrestling Championships
Congratulations to Abby Lloyd, Drew Ramsay and Liam Moss for their success at the Western Canadian Wrestling Championships! Liam won Bronze, Drew a Silver medal and Abby Gold in each of their respective divisions. Liam and Drew are members of the Aberdeen Judo Club and Abby trains and is the Head Sensei of Sunshine Coast Judo Club. Sandra Hewson Master Athlete of the Year Finalist
We are pleased to announce Sandra Hewson, Judo BC’s 2nd VP, is one of 3
finalists for the Sport BC Master Athlete of the Year Award. Congratulations
Sandra! The award ceremony will take place at the River Rock Show Theatre in

SportMedBC is offering some great sport safety courses, including Sports 1st Aid, Concussion Management and Athletic Taping, this month that are now open for public registration. All the courses are BCRPA certified and qualify for education credits. We are excited to be holding courses in some brand new locations, click here to find a course near you.
