Hiring Update
After several weeks of having the Sport Development Director position posted on various sport and employment related sites we have several applicants from around the world interested in the position. We have also named a hiring committee to help choose the best candidate, the committee consists of: Jim Kojima, Tokue Suda, Bruce Kamstra and Sandy Kent. Over the next weeks we will evaluate the applicants and move to get a short list in place by the end of October and an offer in place by December. We are excited about the quality of the candidates and look forward to moving into the next phase of hiring.

Judo Story Worth Sharing
It’s hard to know just how many lives Gary Sova has changed since he started the Inner City Judo Club three decades ago. He figures that more than 1,000 students have passed through the club, which he founded in 1982 at John M. King School and moved to Victoria-Albert School in 1985. But howmany of them went on to live better lives than they would have had they never crossed paths with Sova?

2nd Annual World Judo Day October 28th
The International Judo Federation recently announced the 2nd Annual World Judo Day. This annual day of awareness about judo and its values is held yearly on October 28th which coincides with Jigoro Kano’s birthday. This year the IJF has chosen “JUDO FOR ALL” as the main theme.

“Wherever one comes from, whatever the social situation, the gender, the physical or mental capacities may be, everybody steps on the mat with equal chances and without any differences. This is symbolized by the white judogi that we all wear during our judo clinics and that help our partners to practice good judo.”
Marius L. Vizer, IJF President

Judo BC members are encouraged to participate in this year’s World Judo Day by visiting the World Judo Day website for ideas and resources.
